Board Application
The Siskiyou Humane Society requires that Board members be good listeners, respectful of others' opinions, and endorse our mission. Board members must above all be dedicated to making the lives of animals better. Board members often work on specific projects that include long-range planning, fundraising, marketing, outreach, and technology development.
Basic requirements are as follows:
- No person employed by or receiving remuneration for services from this or any humane society, or who derives his/her livelihood of any significant income from the purchase, sale, use or commercial exploitation of animals, or whose employment or use of animals in his/her occupation
any manner, may serve as a Director.
- Board members serve terms of three years.
- Attendance at least eight regular Board meetings per year. There are 11 regularly scheduled meeting per year as well as attendance at special events and board retreats.
- Each Director shall serve on at least one committee; attend committee meetings as well as special events and functions sponsored by the Society.
- Each Director shall volunteer time on projects such as fund-raising, publicity or education that benefit the Society and the welfare of animals in Siskiyou County.
- Directors must have access to computer communication.
Member responsibilities include:
Establishing policy, hiring and evaluating employees, securing funding, monitoring finances, creating and updating long-range planning for the organization, adopting policies and approving contracts as appropriate and selecting, supporting and periodically reviewing the organization's officers.
