Technology Committee Report for 2007/2008

The goals of the Committee for 2007 and the results for the year are as follows:
Develop an electronic database of members and/or update the current database. Completed.
Organize a website around the database. Completed.
Assess the technology needs of the Shelter and Board and make necessary upgrades. Prem worked more on this project than I did. This is difficult for me to accomplish as I am not physically at the shelter. Need to recruit someone to work on this.
Organize an electronic archival site to store documents such as strategic plans, annual reports, organizational charts, financial records etc and make that site available to the public when appropriate, and to the Board for private documents. Completed.
Post available animals to the website and coordinate those postings with Pet Finder. Completed by staff.
Produce electronic documents for distribution through the Internet of newsletters, invitations, thank you notes etc. Also make mailing available through traditional mail of the above items. We have so few email addresses that I have not put time into an online newsletter. Quarterly newsletter being mailed to everyone on database.
Make available online donating through the website. Completed.
Make available special items for sale when needed, from the thrift stores through the website. Need to recruit.
Provide for staff and Board training as needed. Need to recruit. Not completed.
Establish instant messaging for staff and Board as needed. Not completed per Board decision.
Resources proposed:
Possible software purchases, domain name purchase, hardware, training. Estimated budget not to exceed approximately $2500. This is only an estimate at this time. I will apprise the Board of any costs before making any purchases.
Time frame – I would like to achieve the goals above in one year at which time the Board can determine whether there is further need for the Committee.
Goals for 2007/2008 –
- Recruit hardware networking person for Shelter.
- Install computer at Yreka Store for staff use.
- Increase Board and staff training as needed.
- Update contact information for staff and volunteers.
- Create a volunteer and donor mailing list for all volunteers and donors.<
